Biography of a Master Yogi - W. L. Lillard

W. L. Lillard found himself in the science of yoga in 1974.  When he was inflicted with the flu virus.  While being treated for  the virus he asked for a test of his blood pressure.  The test was positive, there was in fact high blood pressure.  Lillard then realized that he was subject to all the illness’ and diseases of the world; He had a mini-drug store in his medicine cabinet and all the fast items like Aspirins and Tums for the "tummy" next to his bed.  After learning of the high blood pressure he aid back on his couch and focused on an object in the ceiling, he suddenly realized that he was following the backwardness of society.

His bad eating and social habits had placed him in harms way.  Lillard decided at that time to go back to basics.  He was a vegetarian as a child although he did not under- stand it; he just knew he did not like meat, so he would take it out of his food and only eat the vegetables on the plate.  During that time he never experienced sickness.  He started lifting weights at the age of (17) seventeen; the  instructor advised him to eat lots of rare beef in order to put bulk on his small frame.  He could not eat the meat rare, but at that time he  started eating meat very, very well done.  That was the beginning of his decline in health and consciousness.

In September of 1974 he became a vegetarian again.  After two weeks he felt what he thought was weakness, so he called a friend whom he knew was a vegetarian and asked him about the weakness.  The friend said succinctly, put the strength where it belongs, in the mind; Lillard instantly felt strong.   W. L. began his training as a Yoga Master with Dr. Asar Ha-pi.  A long time friend Dr. Ha-pi, a yoga  master, said he would assist W. L. with starting a yoga program.  That weekend he started Lillard in his class and gave him a yoga book.  The book was the "Complete Illustrated Book of "Yoga."

Lillard found himself in that book, all of his thoughts were in the philosophy and principles of yoga.   He became a serious student of yoga, mastering difficult postures, breathing techniques and the art of true meditation in a very short time.  In November 1974 Lillard decided to eat fruits and nuts only.   A diet such as that was unheard of at that time.   All the doctors and nutritionist warned that he could not live without the values of cooked vegetables.   But Lillard was  listening to the spirit that had taken over his existence and started guiding him from the inside.

He would maintain this rigid style of eating until about June of 1980 when he started eating cooked vegetarian foods once in a while.  This only lasted for a little while.  His basic diet today are fruits and nuts, although he does eat raw vegetables at times.  This shows the union between mind, body and spirit.  The word yoga means union or one with God.  Lillard is a serious yoga student on the path to  oneness with God.   His quest  is to introduce others to the study of yoga; so they too can get on the path of oneness.  He is teaching yoga at Kennedy King College.  To register; call the office of registration and get connected.   Ask for Linda English at 773-602-5041
