W. L. Lillard is the president and CEO of Star Planet Television and Associated Companies. He is a prominent lecturer on economic development, a yoga master and also hosts the T.V. talk show "Straight Talk, which airs live on www.starplanettv.com, on the World Wide Web at 10:00 am Monday through Friday.
W. L. is a graduate of Sussex School of Technology, in Sussex, England. He holds a Ph.D. in Criminology. From 1958 to 1970 Mr. Lillard was employed as a Police Officer, in Phoenix, Il. rising to the rank of Captain and supervising a force of 50 full and part-time police officers.
While working for the Cook County Sheriff's Dept. he was appointed Chief of Police for the Maywood, IL Park District Police Dept. in 1985. W. L. ended his career as an investigator for the Cook County Sheriff's Dept. in 1991, ending his public career to devote his attention to Star Planet Television and his other businesses.
W. L. Lillard found himself involved in the science of yoga in 1974, when he came down with a flu virus. While being treated for the virus he asked the doctor for a blood pressure test. The test proved to be positive. His blood pressure was in fact high. Lillard then realized that he was being subjected to all the illnesses and diseases of the world.
He had a "mini-drug store" in his medicine cabinet complete with all the "fast-cure" remedies like aspirin and tums for the tummy next to his bed. After learning of his high blood pressure reading, W. L. went home, laid-back on his couch and, looking up began to focus on a speaker in the ceiling. It was then that he suddenly realized that he was following a "backward" society.
His bad eating habits and "abortive lifestyle" had placed him in harm's way. It was then that he decided to go back to the basics. He remembered that as a child he had been a vegetarian, although he had not understood what that meant, he just knew intuitively that "flesh" was not for human consumption, so as a child he would take it off of his plate and eat only the vegetables.
During his childhood he remembered never having experienced any sickness. He started lifting weights at the age of seventeen and the instructor advised him to eat lots of rare beef in order to put bulk on his small frame. He took his instructor's advise to eat beef, although he could not eat it rare, it had to be well, well, well done, but that was the beginning of his decline in health and consciousness.
In September of 1974 he became a vegetarian again. After two weeks he felt what he thought was weakness, so he called a friend whom he knew was a vegetarian and asked him about the weakness, the friend said succinctly, "put the strength where it belongs, in the brain." When he did this he instantly felt strong, so he started his yoga training with his long time friend Dr. Asar Ha-Pi a yoga master.
Asar started W. L. in a yoga class and gave him a yoga book, "The Complete Illustrated Book Of Yoga." W. L. "found himself" in that book. All his thoughts were in the philosophy and principles of yoga, so he became a serious student of yoga an mastered the principle techniques in a very short time.
In November of 1974, he decided to change his diet to fruits and nuts only. In those days a diet of fruits and nuts only was unheard of. Both doctors and nutritionists alike warned him that he could not live on such a diet. They advised him that he should at the very least eat cooked vegetables.
But W. L. Lillard was listening to the spirit within that had taken over his existence and had begun guiding him. He would maintain that rigid style of eating until June of 1980 when for a short time he ate "cooked" vegetarian foods once in a while, not every day but once or sometimes twice a week.
This change in eating habits however, only lasted for a short time. His basic diet today continues to be fruits and nuts although he does on occasion consume raw vegetables. This shows the union between mind body and spirit. The word yoga means "union" or "one with the creator". His quest today continues to be one of introducing others to the study of yoga; so that they too may find their way along the path of oneness.......
